Supplies included
Please only use supplies from our art container: detail and regular brushes, yellow sponge (to wipe off mistakes or unwanted glaze), round painting sponge, glaze containers, water cup to wash brushes
Set up your painting area
Wash your hands to make sure hands are clean and free of any oils. Pick a clean surface (away from food and paints (such as acrylic, oil, etc.) and place the provided placemat on your painting area. Fill up the spill-proof container with clean water. Grab a few paper towels to wipe your brushes and hands. Do not use baby wipes or any kind of wipes on the pieces as they contain oils, which repel the glazes from pottery.
Begin with your background color, or your lightest color
You can put darker glaze on top of lighter glaze, but lighter glaze on top of darker glaze won’t show once your piece is fired.
Paint at least TWO good coats of color to get an opaque finish
A “good” coat is a nice, even layer of glaze with no lumps or drips. Make sure your brush is moist, but not dripping water, for the smoothest application. If you are hearing scraping sounds as you’re painting, your brush is too dry.
Cleaning brushes and sponges
Rinse brushes and sponges in the water in between colors. Get the excess water out with paper towels.
Let your glaze dry between coats
Watch it turn from wet, to damp, to dry and matte. Use the time between coats to paint other parts of your piece – for example, if you’re painting a mug, let the outside dry while you paint the inside. On mugs, the handle should be the last thing you paint.
Paint EVERYTHING!
Paint the inside, the outside, the bottom, absolutely everything on the piece! Make sure you leave no white spots. If you want something to be white, please paint it with white glaze.
Signing your piece
Be sure to leave your initials or something else on your piece to let us know it’s YOURS! Use your smallest brush and use one of the included glazes to sign your piece.
Do NOT use anything not included in the provided kit to sign your piece, such as pen, pencil, marker, sharpie, metallic paints, etc.
Get CREATIVE and have FUN!
